With no apologies.

This isn't to say that I'm not interested in others' opinions or critique (with the pics that I put time into, at least), but I've seen far too many people cower in fear, wondering how their watchers will react if they posted something controversial or worry about losing a few.

It's far better to have watchers who are made up of people who like you for what you do, than watchers who are made up of people with whom you have to suppress yourself in order to please. What a chore it would be to have to grind out art, feeling like that.

Shouldn't your gallery be an extension of yourself? Isn't art meant to be an expression of yourself?
